Yetish.N.Yetish 1962-1967 Pope House
In Yetish's own words....
Dad was transferred to to Gauribidanur, little town some 40- 50 miles outside Bangalore, where he was Managing Director of a Sugar factory and I went to a little rural school, very Indian. Cottons had only one common thing with this school, Khaki uniform. It was a culture shock, but I learnt to read and write my mother tongue "Kannada" and got into National College, Bangalore to do my PUC, later went into business (printing press) and motor sports. Went ahead and did my BA as an external. Lived in Madras Bank Rd. (across the street from SBI, yes near your current office), Kumara Park. While my brother Shyam Sunder won or placed at almost all motorcycle race he participated, I was the kid who almost made it, but then in late 70's I won the Karnataka 1000 rally on my motorcycle and two years later won the best performance on the four wheeler category (was leading when the car broke 30 minutes from completion of a 24 hour rally). I did win many ! smaller rallies and speed sect I came to NY in 82 to study photography at ICP, on completing my course I became the house photographer at ICP and even had an apt. overlooking Robert Redford's on 94th street. Met Pam a NJ gal with Sicilian heritage who was a creative writer and a photographer , an NYU graduate. Married her and traveled together for three months, Europe and India (mostly) after quitting my job. Returned to the US and got a job with Magnum Photos in NY as a house printer after having made a home in NJ. Thirteen years later we were divorced, Pamela pursued ceramic art, and is currently a ceramic artist and teacher while being mother to our two children in the same town. I have stayed with photography, while working for Fedex as a consultant. Yes two very different activities, both of which I enjoy.
I am seeing Anya a lovely gal from CT, originally from St.Petersburg a Georgetown graduate, and my two wonderful children Gandhi and Shanti 15 and 12 who continue to amaze me are very much part of my life.
Anya and I have tentative plans to be in Bangalore briefly in the third week of June, will keep you informed. Would love to see you in person.
